Key Colors Winter 20-21

Written by Luis Fabián González

As we look forward to 2021, winter is ideal for redecorating things with a new mindset.

Winter is all about harmony, order, and friendly charm. It’s frosty mornings, bright and crisp days, and lovely dark blue nights; winter conveys a feeling ideal for inspiration as shape, form, and color are everywhere. Although in 2020, this statement may be challenging to grasp since this year has continuously challenged us emotionally, the global health pandemic has been in our minds at every moment, making it difficult to have the encouragement to seek inspiration.

Now more than any time, since we spend a lot of time surrounded by four walls, it’s essential to stay in an environment that gives us peace and emotional wellness and creates a safe and cozy haven to retreat.

Looking back at happier, calmer times, neutral brown colors are always soothing as is a color pattern we go back time and time again; they are comforting, adding warmth and depth to a room. They remind us of earth and the natural world reconnecting with the essentials around us. Think snuggling up by a fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate and a blanket. Combine them with shades of greens to create a harmonious organic atmosphere or pair them with rich heritage colors to create a hospitable intensity aura.

Greige (Grey + Beige) is a new versatile color, a neutral that adds a more decadent feel and can work in both cool and warm color schemes. As the outside world tends to get a little cloudy and alarming, having a deep, cozy refuge is ideal. Consider using different tones or shades of the color in crucial living areas to create a truly cohesive feel throughout. You can accessorize and use accent colors to add more interest and character if you prefer or with softer browns, creams, or white to achieve a contemporary and timeless interior.
